Fashion Journalism

With numerous fashion editorials, journals and magazines increasing day by day, there is a huge demand for fashion journalists. A recent study revealed that writing jobs are expected to considerably increase by 2015.

There are numerous careers one can choose from, depending on their interests and talents. A fashion journalist can work as a freelancer or be employed. Freelance writers, freelance columnists, freelance reporters, staff writers, staff reporters, staff columnists, book authors and press release writers, are few of the various options available today.

A majority of the jobs in the industry require at least a bachelor's degree in fashion design or journalism. You can also get an internship with a renowned establishment and then pursue your career. Other basic requirements include good writing and communication skills.

You also need to have a good knowledge about the fashion industry. It is advisable to keep yourself updated with the latest happenings in the world of fashion.

People are dependent on journalism for the better part of their market knowledge and statistics have proven that the market for advertised and discussed fashion accessories is much greater than that of well designed products that are merely placed in the markets for sale. There was a time when people would look at magazine back page covers to learn the names of new clothes that have been launched in the market to put on a worldly face in the company of friends and other acquaintances.

Read and learn. Don't just read newspaper articles instead, pay attention as to how they were written. Grab a pen and paper. Take note the elements that are usually being used by journalists so you'll know what to do when it's your time to tap on your keyboard.

Practice makes perfect. Spend at least 2-3 hours everyday in enhancing your writing skills. Write about stories that are happening around your neighborhood or those issues that affect the country. Then, show these articles to some of your friends or neutral third party. You will need to do this so you can get objective opinion about your articles.

Be passionate. You can't be in this industry just because you want to make good money. In order to excel in this field, you need to be very passionate. You see, when you put your heart and mind into what you're doing, you'll most likely to come up with the best articles that your target audience will surely going to love.
